3 Tips to Save Money on Harley Repairs

One thing you will always dread when it comes to repairs on your Harley-Davidson is the cost. Parts aren’t cheap, labor isn’t cheap and Harleys aren’t cheap. Overtime parts will wear down and need to be replaced so the longer you have your bike, the more repairs you can expect to make. Here are a few simple tips that could help you save money when making repairs:

1.     Don’t let the mechanic order: If your mechanic is ordering the parts they are usually going to cost more. It takes your mechanic time to place the order and since they have to do it for you, they are going to markup the prices. There are some cases where the mechanic may get you a better deal on Harley parts because they have an arraignment with the supplier but in most cases that is misleading. The deal they have is 10% off from the distributor and they mark up the part 25% or more.

2.     Order online: Local stores have quality prices but remember you are paying for parts based on their availability. The store can charge what they want because they know you need it right then and there, plus if they are the only store nearby they know they can charge what they want. Online stores offer better deals because they are more focused on moving volume rather than getting the most profit per sale. It is a completely different business method and the result is the customer benefits by purchasing custom Harley-Davidson parts online rather than from the local stores.

3.     Hire the best mechanic: Now that seems like a crazy idea, hiring the best mechanic to do the repair work on your Harley is going to save you money? In the long run, yes it will. Let’s say you purchase Harley parts and you save hundreds of dollars by ordering online. Then you go to the cheapest mechanic in town who gets the job done but the installation of those parts was not done properly and in a few months parts bend, dent or wear down faster than they should? Now you have to start the process all over again and you are wasting even more time and money. Sometimes the best way to save money is to make sure that you get the repair work done the right way, the first time.

Custom Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts can add up, especially if you need to do some major repair work to your Harley. Rather than worrying about keeping costs as low as possible you should make sure that the job is done correctly, the first time so you do not have additional problems down the road. But there is a way to save money on any Harley parts you need and that is to make sure you are buying them online.
